the north west and the battle of the atlantic

The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest campaign of the Second World War. Involving thousands of ships in more than 100 convoy battles, it began on the first day of the war and continued until the last, almost six years later. This talk, by Norman Thorpe of Shackleton and Aviation Museum, examines the pivotal role that the North West played in the battle; from the naval base at Derry/Londonderry which was vital to the protection of convoys in the Atlantic, to the airfield at Aghanloo which acted as an important deterrent to German U-boats.

Free admission, however places must be booked in advance.
