the past is another country

keady gallery

Eddie O’Kane’s paintings centre on visits to physical locations and journeys conducted through memory. Images capture moments in space and time from past and present. He uses memories like a stream of consciousness; with resonances from the past triggering a response that then leads further back in time. The exhibition comprises oil painting and a range of other media.

Eddie studied Fine Art/Painting at the College of Art in Belfast. He completed postgraduate study in Art and Design at University of Ulster and a Masters Degree in 2000 in Multimedia at Tallaght Institute of Technology Dublin. He lectured in Letterkenny Institute of Technology and in 2009 he was awarded joint first prize for painting at the Oireachtas Exhibition. He has exhibited extensively with venues including, the McClelland Gallery and Queen’s University, Belfast, the Orchard Gallery, Derry, Iontas, Sligo Art Gallery, Cavanacor Gallery and the United States Embassy in Dublin as well as in the Royal Ulster Academy exhibitions. His work is featured in many private and public collections including the Office of Public Works, Letterkenny Institute of Technology, Letterkenny Library, Donegal County Council Offices, Bundoran, Buncrana Library, Buncrana Garda Station, the Royal Apartments, Hillsborough Castle, and the Derek Hill and Brian Friel Collections.
