the big chill

A group of seven former college friends gather for a weekend reunion at a posh South Carolina winter house after the funeral of one of their circle. Released in 1983, this film was embraced by the baby boomer generation and spawned countless imitators including the very English Peter’s Friends. The film was instrumental in establishing the careers of renowned actors including Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum, William Hurt and Tom Berenger, and is also as well known for its soundtrack featuring the Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin.
An always entertaining and perceptive film that hardly ever lapses into sentimentality – Film 4
