richard deering
An enchanting evening of stunning music lies in store, with one of the UK’s most revered pianists. Television and on-stage performances throughout the world have won Richard Deering a reputation as one of Britain’s leading – and most entertaining – soloists and lecture-recitalists. He studied in London with Frank Merrick and Peter Wallfisch and has toured to more than ninety countries worldwide. Recognised as an authority on British music through his lectures, concerts, broadcasts, recordings and writings, he has been entrusted with many first performances by leading composers of the calibre of Malcolm Arnold, Thomas Wilson, Edward Gregson, Edward McGuire and Brian Chapple. Many composers have written especially for him and he has commissioned several new works. In 1981 he was elected a member of the Royal Philharmonic Society for “distinguished services to British music,” while in 2006 he was given the Trinity College London Chairman’s Award for services to musical education assessment.
Richard also has considerable experience as a teacher, and has held Guest Lectureships at Hong Kong’s Academy of Performing Arts, Auckland University, Trinity College Dublin, State University of New York and Christs’ College Cambridge, and has served on competition juries throughout the British Isles and internationally. Until recently, he was the Vice-Chairman of the Adjudicators’ Committee with the British and International Federation of Festivals, and an Advisor on contemporary music and jazz to the London Arts Board.
Tonight’s programme will include Mozart, Brahms and Schumann. A delightful evening not to be missed and perfect for a romantic Valentine’s celebration!
