Danny Boy, written by Fred E.Weatherly to the tune of Londonderry Air and published in 1913, is known across the globe. In this insightful talk, Dr. Martin Dowling, lecturer in Traditional Irish Music at Queen’s University Belfast, explores Danny Boy’s long-held popularity and influence on the world of music.

About the speaker: Dr. Martin Dowling is a Sligo-style fiddle player, historian and sociologist and has performed on national radio and television in both Ireland and the UK. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has held research fellowships in history and sociology in Queen’s University of Belfast and University College Dublin. He joined Queen’s University Belfast in November 2006 having previously worked as the Traditional Arts Officer in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Free admission, however places must be booked in advance.
