a history of irish aviators and aviation in ireland
This heritage talk, by Norman Thorpe of Shackleton and Aviation Museum, will examine the history of aviation in Ireland. Beginning in 1909 when Harry Ferguson became the first man in Ireland to fly a plane, the talk will cover a range of awe-inspiring stories, including Amelia Earhart’s first solo flight across the Atlantic to Ballyarnett in 1932. Particular emphasis will be given to the role that local airfields such as Limavady, Ballykelly and Eglinton played during the Second World War. A must for all aviation and local history enthusiasts.
Free admission, however places must be booked in advance.
