History of Football in Limavady

An fascinating heritage talk examining the rich history of football in Limavady will be taking place at the RVACC on Wednesday 25 July at 7pm.

A complementary event to the Limavady United F.C. exhibition currently on display in the Centre’s Ritter Gallery, the talk will be led by Mr. David Brewster, Vice Chairman of Limavady United F.C. Mr. Brewster has been researching the history of football in the local area for some time; trawling through newspaper records, gathering photographs and speaking to former players and supporters; amassing a wealth of insightful information in the process.  

Victoria Newberry, Museum/Heritage Officer, comments, “The history of football in Limavady is a highly interesting topic. Limavady’s footballers were pioneers of the sport in the late 1800s and throughout the course of the 20th century and into the 21st, there have been many interesting matches, victories and losses. This talk will be of interest to both sport and local history enthusiasts alike.”
