screen legend monroe visits the roe

Screen icon Marilyn Monroe graces us on Tuesday 10 July, 7.30pm with the film screening of recent award-winning hit My Week with Marilyn.
Presented by the Roe Valley Community Film Society, it depicts the intense relationship between Monroe and British icon, Sir Laurence Olivier, during their production of The Prince and the Showgirl, a film released in 1957 which was panned by both critics and cinema-goers alike. As Olivier’s professionalism and perfectionism clashes mightily with Monroe’s relaxed and erratic personality, things go from bad to worse! All of this is told by the chief protagonist, Olivier’s assistant Colin Clark, a gauche newcomer to the film industry who finds himself bewitched by Marilyn, despite his boss’ views.
Monroe is played by the fine young actress, Michelle Williams, who subsequently won a Golden Globe for her performance. The great Olivier is played to witty perfection by the wonderful Kenneth Branagh, who received an Academy Award nomination. The fine supporting cast includes Michael Kitchen, Simon Russell Beale and Julia Ormond.
