We’re looking forward to this Saturday 21st when folk singer/musician Damien O’Kane returns to his native homeland from across the water to perform songs from his two albums Summer Hill & Mystery Inch. You can take the boy out of Coleraine, but it seems you can’t take Coleraine out of the boy, for this wonderful artist makes a point of revisiting traditional northern Irish songs and presenting them to international audiences.
Heartfelt, his songs take you dandering down the Summer Hill Road in Aghadowey or pottering along the wild sands of Magilligan. Have a taste of what’s on offer with this great performance of The Strands of Magilligan. We don’t know about you, but we think there’s something magical about the songs of our native land, and salute Damien for making them a joy to hear for contemporary audiences.
A full-time member of Kate Rusby’s band, Damien still finds time to produce his own music. Mystery Inch recently won an award at the Cambridge Folk Festival, was described by The Sunday Express as ‘a gorgeous record’, whilst BBC Music commented ‘what hits you immediately is the richness of O’Kane’s voice’. We can’t wait to witness his superb banjo playing first hand! Find out more here.
