limavady welcomes a touch of hollywood
Duana Forrest catches up with some Hollywood Celebs as they film Dracula in Limavady.
Vans, buses, trailers. Lights, camera, action. Limavady town was treated to the Hollywood whirlwind last weekend with the arrival of worldwide ‘Universal Pictures’.
Bram Stoker’s 116 year old novel Dracula is set to hit the screens later next year with another adaptation, this time directed by Irish Director Gary Shore. This adaptation is set to follow the true history and origin of Dracula, showcasing the transformation of Prince ‘Vlad’ to ‘Dracula’. Welsh actor Luke Evans (Fast and Furious 6) has scored the coveted title role alongside Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia), Sarah Gadon (Cosmopolis) and Samantha Barks (Les Misérable) also starring.
Anyone who has visited the Roe Valley Country Park, with its incredible and unique scenery, will have no uncertainty as to why it was selected for the filming of the dark tale, but that doesn’t mean the surprise factor was any less euphoric for the town and its locals. Since the large white vans and impressive cameras arrived in town, there was a certain spark in the air, a buzz that Limavady has not seen before. On the days prior to filming, the Roe Valley Country Park and O’Cahans Rock had a constant stream of people walking and having a casual nosey at the production of the sets. The week beginning August 5th brought leading man Luke Evans to film in the O’Cahans Rock and Country Park for two days, gathering an impressive audience at the opposite side of the river, eager to catch a glimpse of the cast and crew in action.
Speaking briefly to Luke Evans and Director Gary Shore, Luke spoke of his time filming in the River Roe and his discomfort of not only being in the cold river for eight hours, but having crew members further spray him with water, to which Gary jokingly added that he was perfectly fine in his waders and waterproof clothing. While the long hours of filming were not the most comfortable, both men have nothing but praise and gratitude for the incredible surroundings of Limavady. This entry was posted on August 12th, 2013 at 1:00 pm by Desima
