rvacc welcomes caoimhe!

Caoimhe started her placement with us at the beginning of August and will be with us until the end of December 2011. Currently at the North West Regional College studying for a Hospitality and Tourism Management Foundation Degree, Caoimhe is from Ballykelly, and brings a fresh element to the RVACC team.

At the moment, she is helping the Arts Outreach and Events Officer with many different tasks such as: assisting with Front of House duties at events, general workshadowing and learning how to create press releases, attend meetings, help with filing documents and general administrative duties.

During her placement with us, she will also be observing the duties of the Visitor Services Officers, workshadowing the Museum / Heritage Officer and working on projects with the Tourism Development Officers.

Caoimhe says – “I thought this would be a good experience to be able to learn different roles within the Tourism Industry and working at the RVACC has let me see different aspects of Tourism and the Arts and what brings visitors to the area.  Through working in the TIC, I am learning how to improve my communication skills; face to face and over the phone by observing the VSOs. I feel like my organisation and prioritising skills are increasingly becoming apparent as I’m constantly using them and feeling more confident. I have to complete an assignment whilst on my placement and one of the topics I am thinking of covering is event marketing and promotion so I am spending my spare time reading up on this in the office and finding out how the Officers promote and market their events via different mediums.

I hope to have gained all the necesary knowledge and skills to be able to work within the tourism sector and my long term goal is to be a Visitor Services Officer on a cruise ship. Something that many people do not know about me is I am also considering to study to become an accountant!”

We hope Caoimhe really enjoys and benefits from her placement with us – she is such a wonderful asset already, it will be hard to let her go in December!
