staff q – stephanie neumann-flynn (arts outreach + events officer)
DESCRIBE YOUR AVERAGE WORKING DAY
For an office-based day I would usually be at work for 9am, reply to emails, programme events for the next events guide and outreach activities and maybe meet with artists, colleagues, community groups and other organisations to work on partnership projects or brainstorm ideas for new and exciting projects. The day usually finishes at 5pm. If I’m working on an event, I’ll be the first on-site to liaise with artists and technical services to make sure that everything is where it’s meant to be at the agreed time and runs smoothly. When the event finishes I’m usually the last person to leave make sure everything is cleared up.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
It’s wonderful to have such a varied job where I get to meet and work with so many interesting people and plan events and activities that are attended by the citizens of both the Limavady Borough and further afield. Developing different projects and seeing the finished work. I find it really exhilarating to know that I’ve had a hand in making something happen, be it an exhibition or event.
WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE RVACC?
It’s fantastic to be able to work in a lovely new venue and have so many facilities to be able to use for events and workshops. The team that work here are great and we all have a laugh and a bit of banter in the staffroom during breaks. The Centre is also used so much by community groups and it’s great to be able to provide this service for them.
GIVE IT UP: TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVOURITE CULTURAL ACTS/ARTISTS/ARTY THINGS YOU LIKE TO DO
I love films, mainly from the 80’s to present day. I have a large DVD collection at home and even some videos from pre-dvd days! I especially love the work by Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation film studio and would one day love to travel out to Japan to see where the magical films are created and where the influences stem from. I also love to travel to different countries and experience different cultures and gastronomy and try to go to mainland Europe once a year and also the States or Canada.
